Clayton D8568 ventured out on a test run Saturday 7th August, the loco was only on No 2 engine as the recently fitted No1 is still to be fully connected & commissioned. The Test run was not completely successfully as the recently fitted turbo failed on the second run for reasons that are not yet fully understood, however we will be exchanging that turbo for the known good one from the, now spare original No 1 engine.

Clayton D8568 has had its No.1 power unit installed at Chinnor after the overhauled generator was mated with a replacement engine which was a former BR engine previously in use as a standby generator, there is still a lot of work to do before it can be used in anger as the engine has seen a fair number of modifications since it was last used in a loco probably 35 or more years ago!

The number two engine on the Clayton was started and ran for an hour or so today and all seems well. The Paxman supplied head joints obtained a few months ago appear to be working without any problem.

The replacement engine that has been coupled to the rewound main generator in recent months at OOC was delivered to Chinnor last Tuesday. Chris Guntripp is currently cleaning & painting the engine room area prior to it being fitted into the loco. The No 2 engine has had 4 out of the 6 cylinder heads rejointed with the joints obtained from MAN (Paxman) a couple of months ago......2 more to do!7th May 2009
